Darrell Wong was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. As the son of an amateur photographer growing up in the Pacific Ocean, it was only natural for him to mix these two influences into his lifelong interest of ocean sports photography.

With no formal training in the arts or photography he set out to shoot his friends surfing… just for the fun of it. Several years later during the late 70's; with the advent of windsurfing, his career took off as one of the premier photographers in the sport. In addition to working for major windsurfing manufacturers, his work has appeared in worldwide advertising, with a client list including; American Airlines, Coca-Cola, Dow Chemical, Hewlett-Packard, J.Crew, Mercury-Marine, and Procter & Gamble.

General Member of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) since 1988 and a contributor to the Tony Stone Images / Hulton Getty Group, he now lives in Haiku on the island of Maui, and maintains a home/office while traveling the world shooting assignments …

... and his friends… just for the fun of it!

Darrell has graciously allowed us at VoiceYourself to share with you some of the images from the “glory days” of windsurfing.  Enjoy.
